The Hatcher/Phillips Band specializes in acoustic blues. Guitarist Kris Phillips grew up in Santa Monica, California, following the blues masters such as Johnny Winter, John Hammond, Jr., Duane Allman, B.B. King, and Albert King. He has shared the stage with Dan and Frankie Toler of the Allman Brothers, Foghat, Molly Hatchet, The Outlaws, Wet Willie, Johnny Winter, Derek Trucks, and locally with Overland Express. Vocalist Paul Hatcher plays blues piano and harmonica. This is his seventh Riverbend Festival. He also played at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, was a regular in New Orleans’ French Quarter for several years, and has opened for bands such as Mother’s Finest, Richie Havens, Atlanta Rhythm Section, and the Grass Roots. His piano influences are Dr. John, Bill Evans and Burton Cummings. Kris and Paul have previously played together in the Delta Rockers and the Austin Nickels Band.
